A Swedish initiative to promote healthy, sustainable and affordable food takes home the Local EAT Award 2017. The winner “Portionen Under Tian”, was announced on stage at EAT Stockholm Food Forum 2017. Blogger Hanna Olvenmark received a check for 100.000 NOK and mentoring by hotel tycoon Petter A. Stordalen.

“Portionen Under Tian” translates to “one Euro serving”, and is a website sharing recipes for budget friendly healthy, sustainable meals. Hanna Olvenmark, a 29-year old dietitian, wanted to share advise and inspiration on how to make nutritious food on a tight budget, and created a website that now attracts thousands of daily followers. With the hashtag #staycheap, she wants to challenge misconceptions that you have to go to expensive restaurants to get delicious healthy food.

«Hanna's passion is to make people and the planet healthier, and to show that it can be both tasty and affordable.» Petter A. Stordalen

“I love how she’s already made a business out of it. Now, she’s exploring how she can reach even more people, also outside of Sweden. I want to help her in her goal of inspiring others,” said Petter A. Stordalen, owner of the Nordic Choice Hotel Group and head of the Local EAT Award jury.

The Local EAT Award is an annual competition to promote healthy, sustainable food innovations in Norway and Sweden. “Portionen under Tian” is the fourth winner, elected from a record high number of applicants. The national winner-candidates were announced the week before EAT Stockholm Food Forum, and Olvenmark received her prize on stage in front of 500 leaders within science, business, politics and civil society.

She gladly shares her three best tips for spending less and eating better:

  1. Eat more plant based foods. Legumes are cheap and healthy
  2. Plan your food purchases. It will save you time and money
  3. Bring a packed lunch!

On the question regarding what she will spend her prize on, she replied that she wants to invest in her website to make it more user friendly. Further, she also wants to develop educational films, and will therefore invest in film making equipment.

Local EAT Award is a collaboration between EAT Foundation, the Nordic Choice Hotel-chain Quality Hotel, the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) and the Swedish Federation of Business Owners (Företagarna).

The previous winners have been Fremtidens mat (2014), Keep It Technologies (2015) and Qualifare Consulting (2016).
