Video: “We need to invest in climate smart agriculture”
Reflections from Peter Bakker, President of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and Ambassador Against Hunger, UN World Food Program
Bakker presented aspects of “Vision 2050”, a report published by the WBCSD which lays out a sustainable pathway for nine billion people by 2050. The report, which is the result of an 18-month combined effort involving over 200 companies and external stakeholders in some 20 countries, spells out the “must haves” – the things that must happen over the coming decade to make a sustainable planetary society possible.
These “must-haves” include three strategies for a more sustainable food system:
1. Halve Food Loss & Waste
2. Restore Degraded Land
3. Climate Smart Agriculture.
“The vision for 2050 is a radical transformation grounded in science, scalable business solutions and associated policy requirements. We need to focus on quantitative impact and process monitoring,” he said.
