Dr. Ole Petter Ottersen

Professor Ole Petter Ottersen is the University of Oslo’s elected Rector for the period 2013 to 2017.
Professor Ottersen and his team are working to promote quality research and tuition at all faculties and to develop the University of Oslo into an internationally leading research-centered university with academic breadth.
Ottersen graduated from the University of Oslo Cand. Med. (MD) in 1980, and gained his doctorate in medicine in 1982. He became professor of the Department of Anatomy in 1992. From 1997 to 1999, Professor Ottersen was the academic head of the Department of Anatomy; from 2000 to 2002 he was Vice Dean of Research at the Medical Faculty, and from 2002 to 2009 he headed the Centre for Molecular Biology and Neuroscience – one of Norway’s centres of excellence.
Professor Ottersen has received a number of awards for his research including the Anders Jahre Medical Prize for young scientists in 1990 and the Anders Jahre Award for Medical Research in 2008.
