Arla Foods is a global dairy cooperative owned by 12,300 milk farmers and one of the world’s largest producers of fresh liquid milk, butter, spreads and cream. The company’s roots can be dated back to the 1880’s, when dairy farmers in both Denmark and Sweden formed small, local dairy cooperatives with one common goal: to produce and provide the best dairy products, creating new opportunities for business growth. Over the years, the cooperative idea proved viable and small farmer cooperatives merged to become stronger. In 2000, the largest Danish dairy cooperative MD Foods merged with its Swedish counterpart and Arla– the first cross-border dairy cooperative Arla Foods – was formed. Through further mergers, cooperative owners in the UK, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg have joined Arla Foods.

As one of the world’s leading producers of dairy products, we have a responsibly to supply food products with the highest possible nutritional value, to as many people as possible, using as few resources as possible to reduce our impact on the climate and environment. Our strategies in these areas will help us deliver the ambition and are aligned with EAT’s goal of uniting food products, health and sustainability to address a common challenge of feeding 9 billion people in 2050.
It is obvious that the world’s health challenges can only be resolved through collaboration. Partnerships are a key element of Arla’s sustainability ambitions and health strategy and the partnership with EAT is a natural extension of Arla’s work on health and sustainability, making it easier for consumers to make healthier and more sustainable choices.
